Welcome, Arion Aircraft!

Arion Aircraft, LLC was founded in 2004 to produce and market a kit plane, named Lightning, designed by Nick Otterback, Pete Krotje and Ben Krotje. On March 3, 2006, roughly 2 years after being conceived in a hanger, the first prototype N233AL took to the air and flight testing went well. After two required inspections, the Lightning LS-1 was granted a Special Light Sport Aircraft airworthiness certificate on April 15, 2009.

In 2013 they started looking to go further and faster with the Lightning design and by 2014 had introduced the XS. New for 2017 was the introduction of the Titan XIO340 in the XS kits.

In April 2018, Arion became the exclusive US distributor for the Jabiru line of engines, parts, and firewall kits.

Nick has been with Arion Aircraft since its inception. He was the driving force behind design of the Lightning and has continued to make improvements and changes throughout its evolution. He earned his private certificate in 1996, now holds ratings for CFI, CFII, MEI, Commercial, instrument, Multi, tailwheel and high performance aircraft.
