| MAJOR LIGHT SPORT MILESTONE:
Today, 8 Apr 2005, marks a major milestone for Light Sport Aviation.

MAINTENANCE STANDARD APPROVED:
The last of our ASTM Consensus Standards (Maintenance and Maintenance
Manuals) governing the substance of Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) has been approved, numbered, and a FAA Notice of Availability (NOA) issued.

SLSA REGISTRATION:
And, SLSA registration is now proceeding smoothly as communication links are being established between the FAA Registry and overseas Aviation Ministries. |

SLSA ARE AVAILABLE:
Some imported aircraft have already been issued their N-numbers and certificates of airworthiness for Special Light Sport Aircraft (SLSA).

CERTIFIED LSA ENGINES:
Some Rotax and Jabiru LSA engine certifications are also already available. |

SLSA AT AIRSHOWS:
Look for SLSA at the various upcoming aviation events, such as Sun 'n' Fun at Lakeland, FL: 12-18 Apr, and at the Light Sport Expos (organized by our LAMA Board Director, Dan Johnson) at Marysville, CA: 3-5 Jun, Smart Field, St. Louis, MO: 10-12 Jun, Franklin, PA: 17-19 Jun, and of course the largest of all air events, AirVenture at Oshkosh, WI in late Jul 2005. |

CELEBRATION:
Given the major progress made by the FAA, you will see many FAA dignitaries at these events, celebrating along with LAMA and light sport community. |

I am very proud of all of the LAMA members and the light sport community and enthusiasts for your contributions to the ASTM consensus process, and your hard work to come together and create these ASTM LSA Standards. |

EAA CONTRIBUTIONS:
Keep in mind also the key contributions of the EAA.
I think we all know that we would not be where we are today if it was not for their support, organizational assistance, and solving many issues with the FAA. |

IMPLEMENTATION:
The FAA will announce the details of the implementation of the many provisions of this new rule. It is expected that implementation of the driver's license in lieu of FAA medical will be one of the first items to be activated. The implementation cycle start 1 Sep 2004. |

EXCITEMENT:
I cannot say how you all feel about this, but to me, with over 20 years of work with the FAA, EAA, AOPA and other associations, working to implement this kind of rule-making... TO ME...this is like the Christmas Holidays, 4th of July, and New Years all rolled into one big celebration.
